Derwent Pencil Wrap Review

Derwent Pencil Wrap Review

Derwent Pencil Wrap Review.

I make no apologises for my love of Derwent products and the company in general, people have understandably asked if I work for Derwent given my reviews of their products and I have always answered consistently the truth, which is. No I don't work for Derwent however, if I was ever in a position to work for them I would be honoured. Never the less, regardless of my love for the company and their products, if I feel a product is below standard, I write about it accordingly as I did with the Derwent Studio pencil. Of all the reviews I have completed of Derwent products, the Studio was by far my least favourite product and it showed in the review.

All that being said, I have another wonderful product from Derwent and no matter how much I have tried to find flaw or fault with this product, it has been impossible. The Derwent Pencil Wrap is an absolutely outstanding accessory for any artist and not just those artists outdoors on the go all the time, but indoors as well.

Derwent Pencil Wrap Material

If you cast your mind back a few months, I completed my review of the Derwent Carry Bag, an outstanding product aimed very much toward the artist out and about, enabling them to simply pick up their art supplies and go, ensuring protection and durability of their precious art supplies. The Derwent Carry Bag is very different to the Derwent Pencil Wrap in that it can literally carry all your art supplies in one go, with the addition of one or two extra leaves. To see the review of the Derwent Carry Bag simply click the link.

The Derwent Pencil Wrap is made from the same material as the Carry Bag. A sand colored canvas material, which has undergone many stress tests that I can produce without any effect whatsoever. This material has been used for its durable qualities, in fact, it reminds me very much of the old British Army 58 Pattern webbing which was incredibly strong.

The canvas body is trimmed by a stylish brown leather strip, double stitched, ensuring that no edges fray or snag. The entirety of the wrap looks like quality and when you get get the chance to feel the product you will be able to feel the quality in your hands.

Derwent Pencil Wrap Contents

According to Derwent's web site, the Pencil Wrap can hold up to 30 pencils and room for extra accessories. As you can see from the images I have provided, there is 27 individual slots, made from the strong elastic strip running down the inside centre. After this, there is 4 larger slots that can either hold two pencils each, two pens or as you can see in the images, a Derwent Battery Eraser or Derwent Water Brushes. Where the last double slot is located, above and blow that is a leather band and another elastic pouch, enabling safe storage for sharpeners and erasers.

On the very bottom of the Pencil Wrap, where the core of the pencils would sit or nib of the pens would sit, there is a soft brown leather skirt that protects the contents of the wrap, making sure that non of your pens or pencils have cores exposed were they could be damaged or worse spike into the user.

As I try to keep in touch with as many of my subscribers as I can and build relationships with them, I have become aware of the fact many have issues with their hands, be it unable to grip items or simply apply pressure when needed. With this in mind, some times, especially with pens and less so with pencils, it could be a bit tricky for someone suffering in this way to remove or replace items from the individual slots. Unfortunately, this tight fit is required in order for the items to remain safely in place and not fall out of the pouch.

Derwent Pencil Wrap Price

The price of the Derwent Pencil Wrap is such that you simply have to buy it given its productivity value, strength and durability, protection of your art supplies and portability. Whilst you can purchase the Derwent Pencil Wrap as a single item, Derwent have also made up beautiful gift sets which comprise of their coloured pencils and the pencil wrap combined.

Here in the UK, the Derwent Pencil Wrap will cost you an incredible £5. In the US it is slightly more expensive which I am assuming is primarily down to export duty, but it will cost approximately $16. For those of you in Europe you can expect to pay approximately €9, which is also an incredibly price for such a versatile little accessory.

Some of the sets that are available on Derwent's web site, are an excellent place for any artist to start, sets such as the 24 Derwent Coloursoft & Pencil Wrap, 36 Derwent ColourSoft & Pencil Wrap, 24 Derwent ProColour & Pencil Wrap and the gorgeous 24 Derwent Inktense & Pencil Wrap.

Conclusion

Love or loath Derwent products, nobody can deny that Derwent have an outstanding history of selling colored pencils and graphite pencils. Their relentless pursuit of perfection and pleasing their loyal customers is evident in every product. The Companies innovation with regards to unique products such as the Inktense range, the Graphitint range and the Drawing range is so impressive.

But Derwent have never been one to simply stop at coloured pencils and graphite pencils, their range of accessories for artists is also outstanding and this accessory in particular, the Derwent Pencil Wrap is a perfect example. There are many other such accessories on the market, but the quality and durability of the Derwent Pencil Wrap is outstanding and of course the Derwent name goes a long way in customer piece of mind and satisfaction.

As always, check out our YouTube video review of this amazing product to get a better idea of size and how the item simply rolls up and is fastened to keep your products safe.
